The story
Qissa Khwani, Peshawar’s Storytellers’ Bazaar, is where caravan traders once swapped tales over tea. Kahwa is still poured there from tall kettles into small cups.
It is green tea brewed with crushed cardamom, light and fragrant, and offered to every guest after a heavy meal.

History
Green tea came into the region along trade routes from Central Asia and China. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa it became the drink of hospitality.
How it’s made
Bring water to a boil.
Add green tea and crushed green cardamom.
Simmer for two or three minutes.
Pour into small cups with sugar and a squeeze of lemon.

Served after meals to settle the stomach, and all winter to keep warm.
