The story
Pakistanis drink a lot of tea, and most of it is doodh patti: strong black tea boiled with milk and sugar until it turns a deep caramel colour. Danedar means granular, the small rolled grains that brew strong and fast.
Tapal Danedar is one of the best-known Pakistani blends, made in Karachi and exported to Pakistani grocers worldwide.

History
Tea drinking spread across the region in the 20th century, and Pakistan became one of the world’s largest tea importers. Karachi companies such as Tapal blend imported leaf to Pakistani taste: strong enough to stand up to plenty of milk.
How it’s made
Boil a little water with one teaspoon of tea per cup.
Pour in plenty of milk and bring it back to the boil.
Let it rise and fall two or three times until it turns caramel brown.
Add sugar, strain into cups, and serve hot.
