The story

What it is

Pakistan is one of the world’s largest mango growers, and southern Punjab around Multan is its heartland. Of the many varieties, Chaunsa is the late-summer favourite: very sweet, fragrant and almost free of fibre.

Every summer, boxes of Pakistani mangoes are flown to relatives abroad, and Pakistani grocers from London to Dubai stock them in season.
